In this toolkit, we have used personas to help you keep in mind the various types students and their various abilities&nbsp;while you're developing content. We've also used these personas to&nbsp;introduce you to different types of hardware and software that students typically use.<\/p>\n<p>We've adapted the <a href=\"http:\/\/uxmag.com\/articles\/book-excerpt-a-web-for-everyone\">personas from&nbsp;Sarah Horton and Whitney Queensbury's book <em>A Web for Everyone: Designing Accessible User Experience<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;to be more specific to post-secondary students with print disabilities in British Columbia (based on&nbsp;data from <a href=\"http:\/\/caperbc.ca\/files\/2014\/05\/CAPER-BC-Annual-Report-2014.pdf#page=13\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CAPER-BC<\/a>&nbsp;and the students who attended our focus group).<\/p>\n<p>These are some of the students who will be reading the open textbooks that you write.<\/p>\n<h1><a id=\"Mark\"><\/a>Mark<\/h1>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/opentextbc.ca\/accessibilitytoolkit\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/94\/2015\/02\/persona3.png\"><img class=\"aligncenter wp-image-23\" alt=\"Mark has a learning disability. He absorbs information best by hearing it.\" src=\"http:\/\/www.publiconsulting.com\/wordpress\/librosmia\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/81\/2018\/06\/persona3.png\" width=\"500\" height=\"307\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Mark is 17 years old. He is a future heavy-duty mechanic with a learning disability that was diagnosed in Grade 8. Mark absorbs information best by hearing it and enjoys making and fixing stuff with his hands. He's in his first semester of college taking trades courses and loving it. Mark can't wait to complete the foundation courses and move into his first apprenticeship placement.
